Are all the 8-10 star reviews paid fake ones. I kept waiting for the good romantic parts of this film. They never really happened. The relationship was forced and I felt no chemistry even as they kissed. It felt 2 people settling because they figured that was their only option. It didnt show us very good sides to these characters for the most part either. The main character is somehow over her dead husband and ready to move on shortly after his death? The scene where she tells her frenemies that she's making cheese with the cowboy? I mean really? Then she's hurt when she's reminded that she literally just lost her husband and she realizes she just came off incredible cringe. Clearly she didn't love her husband. Big parts of this movie made no sense. I expected this to be along the lines of a Nicholas Sparks or a Hallmark film. Not even close to either. This film didnt give me that warm sappy feeling and didn't make me feel emotionally involved in these characters lives, or even care about them at all for that matter. This was disappointing and I can't believe this actually went to theaters because this is worse than those MarVista movies. It's like they tried to copy the story line of a done a million times Hallmark movie, made a very rough draft, and then realized that better wasn't in their budget, so they decided that was good enough, then hired a film student to make the movie. I'm guessing all their budget went towards hiring Duhammel. It's a shame they didnt give him a better script. Josh Duhamel isn't a great actor, his looks carry him tbh, but he's also not bad, so I expected better. I like him well enough as an actor I guess, but not in this. I wasn't feeling his character at all. His character was really lacking and that's the scripts fault, not Duhammel's. His character showed no real growth and I expected to find that he's been hiding alcohol and drinking a little when no ones looking because that's just how his character came off to me. His story line about the ex was designed to make me think, Oh wow he's so sweet, wonderful and loyal." Instead I was all, She left you for another man after 5 years of marriage. She selfishly took YOUR parents home, and she didn't want you in her life at all. So, why are you taking over her life and medical care now that she's sick? Even worse, why are you letting her be this miserable dark cloud hanging over your entire life. It wasn't endearing to me, although it could've been if we'd seen more depth, story and emotion. Also, his character didn't have that dependable, good dad vibe about him. He had more of a young, intentionally reckless uncle we see every couple years kinda vibe with the kids. I see this relationship not lasting beyond a few months tbh. He'll be cold and bossy, if not a little controlling, she'll be pissed and throw a tantrum, and then one of them will have to leave. Either him from his job and the Aunt who is more like a Mom to him, because he'll feel obligated, or her and her kids who will suffer because she's the type who runs away. Leslie Bibb's character seemed immature and while I did see character growth, it wasn't enough because it wasn't in the script. Ok, this part is shallow, but I also wish she'd done something a little nice with her hair for the dance. She looked way better leaving home in the beginning than she did at any other point in the movie.
Most characters look brighter and happier by the end to show their growth and happiness, not in this movie. I must say though that her acting in this was a step up from her past acting, which was not quite good. The kids were good enough though, but not so believable in their acclimation to that life and seriously where is the real love for the dead dad from any of them. I mean is no one truly mourning this poor man? He seemed like a good man who worked hard for his family. Again, that's the scripts fault. I just really wish this movie had given me more. When it ended I was all, Wait, what? That's it. It felt unfinished and maybe they're hoping for a sequel, but no thanks, I could care less at this point. Also, the Husband isn't 's dead. Duhammel will never be the Husband either, we all know it, so what's up with the name. Usually I walk away from movies like this and want to buy the book to extend what the movie made me feel. At this point, I don't even care to read the book though, because the movie put me off it.
